You can easily test for mould both on surfaces and for hidden mould. Make sure you choose the right test. If the mould is visible then choose a surface test but go for a dust test if you’re looking for hidden mould.

Test for the presence of mould on a surface

Mould on surfaces (walls, ceilings, etc.) can appear as small spots that may be black, green, brown, yellow, or white. Unfortunately, mould is widespread and can pose health risks, which is why it is wise to test for it yourself, even if you have the slightest concern.

We offer several do-it-yourself tests for visible mould on surfaces. The Quick Mould Test, our most affordable option, is a good starting point if you want to investigate a suspected area.

If the test indicates that the mould level is too high, you can clean the area and then perform another Quick Mould Test. This way, you eliminate other factors that could affect the test result, such as proteins from food residues.

If the next test still shows elevated mould levels, you should consider a more expensive test. This can provide information about the concentration of mould and/or the specific type of mould present.

If you or someone in your home has health issues that could be caused by mould, we recommend not relying solely on a surface test. In this case, it’s a good idea to supplement with a test that can help uncover hidden mould.

Test for hidden mould

Do you suspect there could be mould in a room, but you can’t see any visible signs? This could be due to mould growth being concealed behind wallpaper, panels, under the floor, or similar surfaces.

This makes it a bit more challenging to detect the presence of mould, but not impossible. There are several different options available to test for hidden mould occurrence.

This can be done, for instance, with a Mould air test, where the air in a room is analysed for the presence of mould spores. The test comes in two versions:

  • With the first, you need to calculate the results yourself and assess them based on the accompanying instructions.
  • For the second test, you send it for analysis. You will then receive a report with the test results.

It is also possible to perform a DNA mould test. After collecting the sample, you send it to our laboratory. We will send you a  detailed report of the results within approximately 14 days.
