Our radon detectors

It can be easier and cheaper to measure the radon concentration with the passive radon detectors, the only type approved by UKHSA.

This type of detector contain a special type of radiation sensitive plastic inside, which will be damaged by the decay products from the radon gas.

They require laboratory analysis to derive a result but will provide you with the seasonally adjusted average, the correct value to compare to the Action Level. Note that the requirement is 90 days for a radon measurement to be validated according to the UKHSA protocol.

All prices include VAT.

  • Radon measurement (min 2 detectors)

These UKHSA approved radon measurement kits provide you with the recommended 90 day radon gas measurement and report containing the seasonally adjusted average. We only supply measurement detectors from a UKHSA approved and also ISO accredited laboratory. A kit contains minimum 2 detectors, to be placed in the two most used rooms (typically bedroom and living room/kitchen).

  • Radon screening test (min 2)

UKHSA recommends a measurement period of 3 months for radon gas but with our screening test, you'll get an indication of whether you may have too high a level of radon in just 10 days. We offer the only ISO accredited short term test on the market.

Quick screening

It is possible to do a short-term accredited radon test (min 10 days). Short term tests are called screenings as they do not provide you with the annual average value you should use to compare to the Action Level. They may however give you a quick answer as to whether or not you’re living in a high concentration of radon gas.

Measuring radon with electronic devices

There are a number of electronic devices on the market, which will also provide a fast response. However, it is vital to understand that unless a device has been calibrated by a lab like the UKHSA calibration facility, a device showing a radon level of 200 Bq/m³ say can’t be used to asses if a property is above or below the Action Level. Unless it has been calibrated, the number shown cannot be relied on fully. Also they do not provide the vital value used in the UK to compare to the Action Level.

Different types of electronic devices are available and calibrated devices are available, they just aren’t as cheap as the uncalibrated ones.

Most electronic devices communicate via wifi, bluetooth or LoraWAN.
