Mould air test

Description

Mould can thrive in hidden places behind panels, walls, and other concealed areas. If there is suspicion of mould growth in such locations, it is a good idea to perform a mould air test.

It is easy to check the presence of mould spores in the air. Simply leave the Petri dish you receive in the mail uncovered for an hour. Then, cover it and wait for four days. Afterwards, you can count the number of mould colonies yourself.

If there are between 0 and 3 mould colonies, there are no issues with mould. If there are 4-6 mould colonies, there are slightly more mould spores in the air than usual, but there are likely to be no problems (the mould spores could come from nearby woods, etc.). You may consider a more advanced test if there are 4-6 mould colonies on the air test.

If there are between 7 and 10 colonies of mould, further investigation is advisable. This could involve a more advanced test that can provide greater accuracy regarding both the quantity and types of mould present.

With more than 10 mould colonies, we recommend taking additional measures as there are clear signs of a mould infestation.

One Settle Plate Mould Air Test is sufficient for an area of up to approximately 40 m².

Please note that mould spores from the outdoors can find their way into your home. To enhance the reliability of the test, you can take two mould tests—one outdoors and one indoors. This allows for correction of the influence of outdoor mould spores on the indoor result, as you can visually determine whether the same type of mould is growing on the test plates.

You should especially consider the additional control measurement from mid-summer until the cold sets in later in the autumn. During this period, there are typically more mould spores in the outdoor air. Consequently, there is a higher likelihood that the indoor spore count will increase, potentially affecting the test result.

NB! The test should be used as soon as possible after receipt, as it has a limited shelf life.
